Location of Makoma Hill
Makoma Hill is situated on the left-hand side of the road when travelling from Naabi Hill to Seronera, in the northwestern part of Tanzania. At the base of the hill, there are various tented migration camps available, and in the nearby Seronera area, there are both public and special campsites for visitors.
Wildlife
Makoma Hill is a well-known area in Serengeti National Park, which is abundant in prey and is a popular hunting ground for lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. As a result, there is intense competition between these predators for food in this small but resource-rich region. The wooded Makoma Hill is an excellent spot to observe giraffes, elephants, and buffaloes. There is a small and charming plain in front of the hill, which is heavily used by cheetahs and hyenas. The Thatch Kopjes, a den site for the local lion pride, is the centerpiece of this plain and is breathtakingly beautiful.
How to get there
To reach Makoma hill in Serengeti, you can choose to travel by road or air. If you prefer to go by road, you can use a privately owned, rental or tours and travels vehicle, and it takes about an hour to get there from Naabi hill. While there are passenger buses available in the area, you will still need a vehicle to get around inside the park as walking is limited.
Alternatively, you can travel by air and land at one of the airstrips nearby, and then hire a vehicle to reach Makoma hill. This option provides the added advantage of aerial views of the hill and various parts of Serengeti, and possibly Ngorongoro.
