Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp

The romantic Kisima Ngeda Lodge in the traditional Camp-Safari style is situated direct at the northern-eastern shore of Lake Eyasi, a large Soda Lake where the click-speaking hunter-gatherers of East Africa, the Hadzabe, live.

The German run camp is part of a family-owned farm with a natural spring just nearby which runs into Lake Eyasi. Most food is produced in the farm – try the smoked tilapia fillet and black forest smoked ham, served in the restaurant!

Only 7 luxurous tents, spread in a palm grove of date palm grove and yellow fever acacias, and with stunning views over Lake Eyasi and the nearby Ngorongoro Highland, offering the perfect hide away for travelers who want to experience the less visited parts of Tanzania.

Visitors can enjoy sunsets on a nearby rock, and the camp organises hunting tours with the Hadzabe (early morning!).

A melting pot of culture, Kisima Ngeda offers a different experience from what you’ll find on a traditional safari. Here, you can actually get out of the car — you can explore the trails around the lake, canoe along the shore,  walk through nearby tribal villages, or just sit and enjoy the beautiful lake views (especially at sunset on top of the rock).

While it’s possible to see wildlife, what makes Kisima Ngeda truly special is the opportunity to visit with the local tribes. The waDatoga are a pastoral group like the Maasai, and it’s always interesting to visit the local Blacksmith or a Datoga boma.
