Buffalo Luxury Camp

Buffalo Luxury Camp offers a unique combination of luxurious accommodation, extraordinary wildlife, the exhilarating freedom to participate in guided game & nature walks as well as bush dinners, the rare opportunity to go on night game drives and a fascinating insight into the culture of the local Maasai tribesmen and women.

Buffalo Luxury Camp is situated approximately 5 kilometers (3 miles) from Kleins Gate to the East of the Serengeti National Park.

Accommodation at the camp consists of 15 split level suite tents measuring 60 square metres (or 600 square feet) each and consisting of a verandah, comfortable lounge area, bedroom and bathroom. The lounge is furnished with a writing desk and high-back chair, a comfortable leather sofa and armchair. The raised sleeping area features either a king size or twin beds made from recycled aluminum and decorated with traditional Maasai beadwork. And the bathroom has a soaking tub, separate shower, his and hers wash hand basins, flush toilet, hair dryer and comfortable robes.

Activities

By virtue of its location on the border of the Serengeti National Park, Buffalo Luxury Camp offers a range of activities which are not normally available on the Tanzania Northern Safari circuit.

Guided Game & Nature Walks

Walking in the bush with a professional guide, surrounded by all the sights, sounds and smells that Africa has to offer is something that cannot be experienced from inside a Safari car. An important part of these walks is to understand the ecology of the area being visited as well as to gain basic skills in tracking, dung iden- tification and medicinal uses of trees and bushes in Maasai tradition.

Night Game Drives

These are conducted in the camp’s open vehicle with a Maasai tracker seated in the jump seat to locate wildlife with the help of a specialist spot-light. The experience of a game drive at night is very different from one during the day and you can see aardvark, striped hyena, lions on a hunt and kill, leopard, elephants, impala, zebra, owls, night jar, bush babies and giraffe.

Sundowners and Bush Dinners

Every guest staying at Buffalo Luxury Camp is invited to enjoy a sundowner cocktail from a vantage point from where you can watch the sun set over the Serengeti National Park. This is followed by a bush dinner in an authentic Maasai kraal, complete with acacia brush, camp fire and African night sky.

Maasai and cultural-community interactions

Whereas many of the Maasai bomas to be found on the Tanzania Northern Safari circuit are geared entirely towards visiting tourists, the Maasai of Ololosokwan remain unaffected by large scale tourism and are therefore always enthusiastic about sharing their cultural beliefs with the few visitors they receive from the very limited tourism facilities which exist in their area. A visit among the local people of Tanzania can easily become one of the most rewarding experiences of a visit to Africa.
